Alyssa Malizia

M.Ed., Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

My treatment approach places a strong emphasis on self-compassion, warmth and understanding. I offer a person-centered, integrative approach to counselling, drawing from Cognitive-Behavioural therapy, Attachment theory, and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, while also employing aspects of Mindfulness and Emotion-focused work.

I have gathered experience working with adolescents, adults and couples, with a special interest in individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, personality disorders, self-harm and trauma, as well as couples experiencing relational, marital and/or sexual difficulties. I have and continue to spend time with the Kids Help Phone working with youth in distress. I am also a member of the Optimal Sexual Experiences research team, which are currently running couples group therapy.

I provide a caring and safe environment for my clients, valuing the process of getting to understand them on a deeper level. Therapy will be both emotionally explorative and solution-focused each session, allowing the client to learn about one’s thoughts and feelings, as well as develop coping skills in order to reduce negative symptoms.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I have a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Ottawa as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.

My practice is supervised by Dr. Rebecca Moore, Registered Psychologist
