Psychological Assistant

Under the supervision of a Psychologist, the Psychological Assistant will be responsible for completing portions of psychological assessments and administering behavioural services, including group interventions, for a broad spectrum of children and youth with developmental disabilities and/or emotional/behavioural challenges. Other duties may include assessment of complex school aged children, consultation about developmental issues to staff, and support to program evaluation. 

Dr. Rebecca Moore and Dr. Laura Hanson, psychologists, conduct psychological assessments, therapy, and consultation services with children, youth, and adults for a variety of presenting concerns, including Autism, ADHD, emotional regulation concerns, learning disabilities, and social skills deficits. The Psychological Assistant will be an integral member of the psychology team, assisting in providing these services in an evidence-based, family-centred, holistic manner. Children and youth present to KPCC with a broad range of intellectual and adaptive challenges, language and learning issues, and a broad range of social/emotional challenges. We are seeking a self-directed, team player who is passionate about working with children and youth.

Primary Location: 300 Terry Fox Drive, Suite 700

Start Date: August 20, 2019

Hours: 30-40 hours per week, generally between 8am and 4pm, however evening hours may be necessary at times to accommodate group services

Salary: Employee, $37 per hour

 

Responsibilities:

  • Administration and scoring of psychological tests (e.g. WIAT, WRAML, etc.)
  • Writing portions of comprehensive reports based on test administration
  • Participating in regular interdisciplinary team meetings and feedback sessions with clients and their families
  • Behaviour consultation based on the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis, including in-home visits
  • Assisting in design and implementation of comprehensive behaviour plans to address serious problem behaviour
  • Assisting in the design and implementation of functional behaviour assessments
  • Provide consultation and follow-up direction to service providers, including school staff
  • The collection of collateral information relevant to assessments (e.g. administering questionnaires, organizing and managing scoring of same)
  • Maintain knowledge, skills, and abilities by keeping up to date regarding professional standards through reviewing current literature, attending workshops/seminars and networking with colleagues

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Psychology or related area 
  • Experience in conducting assessments with children, using a variety of tools 
  • Comprehensive training in, and extensive experiencing in delivering intervention using the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis
  • Extensive experience working with children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Experience administering group interventions
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team setting 
  • Extensive understanding of typical and atypical child development 
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational and time management skills 
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Reliable transportation
  • Demonstrated competency in computer usage 
  • Actively supports and promotes healthy team functioning 
  • Willingness to participate in a criminal reference screening process
  • Thorough knowledge of DSM-5 disorders, including learning disabilities, developmental disorders, autism spectrum disorders and children’s mental health disorders, or willingness to acquire this knowledge through directed readings
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral & written) 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently within given timelines 
  • Demonstrated commitment to a client centred philosophy 
  • Bilingualism (French/English) (Preferred)
